Quick Insights: How Tinder got their first 1000 customer?
Tinder growth hack and marketing strategy in one minute.
Hey guys, First of all really sorry for not posting anything for the last 3 months as we’re working on a product for teachers that would be launched in July mid (this project is a top priority for me :))
From now onwards I try to publish at least twice or thrice a month (maybe more If time admits) because conducting research on each blog post takes time. That’s why I decided to come up with an idea to start Quick insights format sending short pieces covering startup stories and insights with a reading time will be around 1-2 minutes. On to the first piece of quick insight👇🏻
About Tinder 🔥
Tinder is a mobile dating app that was founded in 2012 by IAC's Hatch Labs.
In Tinder, users are presented with potential dates in the app's nearby location. After viewing a profile, the user can choose to dismiss or accept the potential partner by swiping left or right. If both users swipe right, they are "matched" and can begin a conversation with another user.
Solving chicken-egg 🐔 Problem
Initially Focused on College sub-communities and sororities.
Pitched their app to college girls in these sub-communities.
The supply of women on a dating platform triggers the participation of men (supply first)
Onboarding VIP’s and Throwing parties 🎉
Acquiring campus VIP's, Presidents, models, influencers to spread the word.
Conducted launch parties with admission only to students with the app installed on mobile.
Organized “Ladies Night” at your local bars to promote Tinder.
Network effect kicked in ➿
Tinder focused on one city instead of geographical expansion.
No Network effect if more users join from different locations across the country.
Additionally, by connecting to a user’s Facebook friends, Tinder is taking advantage of indirect network effects.
Tinder Loop: The more girls joined, the more men followed, the more valuable the app became.
