👀 Context
A few months back I Conducted user research (with almost ~11 Doubtnut users) on Doubtnut to understand How users use the platform and what problems they're facing. Based on the research, Suggesting a few improvements to the platform.
💡Research Insights & Observation
Talked to 11 Doubtnut users from UP, Bihar, MP, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan. Below are a few user insights and observations.
What did users like about the platform?
The used feature in the app is "Ask me to doubt" because it is an easy, instant way to get mathematics, physics, and chemistry solution.
#2 liked feature is free classes from good teachers. This feature is mostly used by the PCB group of students.
3-4 PCB students mentioned that they use the platform to watch sessions from Parth sir in biology, and Vipin sir in Physics.
Top 3 User Pain Points
5 Students from the state board mentioned that they received answers to related questions only when the question is exact.
The same group complained that the question is asked in Hindi but the answers were provided in English.
2 out of 11 users had an issue with teaching pace in Physics, Mathematics. - While one student from the southern state had issues with content available in Hindi and English, making it difficult to understand.
Product Usage
All users we talked to were not using any other feature except free videos from teachers and Ask me doubt.
While Students were spending an average time spent of 15-20 mins whenever they use the app.
🧪 Experiments and Feature suggestions based on research insights
Improving doubt feature: Suggesting relevant doubts based on the user question and language. Instead of showing too many solutions, stick to just 3 solutions. Include ratings and reviews for each doubt solution.
Onboarding Reward: Once the user gets onboarded, the platform can motivate them by giving a small reward (either a free course or an appreciation message). This would act like a small win for the user even before he/she uses the core product.
Improving Filters and Recommendations: Adding filters (Teacher name, Subjects, Ratings) to make free video search easier for the students. The app can recommend free video sessions based on the user's interest and past behaviour on the app.
Adding more subjects solutions: 4 users suggested increasing the number of subjects & adding advanced statistics, computers, and English chapters solutions in the app.
Compete with friends: In the study group, add MCQ tests where students can compete with friends.
1:1 Mentorship Session: Almost all the users haven't paid for any course on doubtful. Reason? Pricing and don't know how useful the course is. Doubtnut can launch a mentorship feature where users can consult a course instructor at a lower price (~49 Rs.) The mentorship feature would give the user the confidence to know more about the instructor and also small purchases might lead to a big purchases in the future.
That’s all from this post folks!
